A brand new 4K trailer for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition premiered this week. The remake/remaster of the original Mass Effect trilogy launches May 14, 2021 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The trailer shows off some of the major enhancements coming to the trilogy, including big changes to Eden Prime , upgrades to FemShep , and updates to… certain camera angl

Her pump-action shotgun deals great damage, especially when aiming for the head, and the long-range Jagged Blade can be thrown and imbed into enemies for a nice assortment of damage. Junker Queen compliments the team well, as long as she stays with them, and she can easily bully other characters, especially if she bans healing thanks to her Rampage ultim

Last week, a YouTuber called Graslu00 uploaded footage from a canceled GoldenEye 007 remaster on the Xbox 360. The game was developed in 2007, but according to the Xbox boss Phil Spencer, became locked in a complicated legal limbo over the rights to James Bond. Between Microsoft, Nintendo, and EON (the owners of the James Bond license), it was simply too difficult to come to an agreement on business terms, and the game was eventually shelved. Graslu00, whose video shows the game in its entirety, was cagey on where the new footage came from, saying only «patience is k

Overwatch 2 is a strange game to review. It’s a free-to-play live-service experience that depends on a consistent audience to find games and progress through its battle pass. As you might have already guessed, there were only so many games journalists in the world to populate its servers as we rocketed towards the embargo. Thus I am left in a bit of a pickle.

The first week of February brought tons of news for some of the biggest franchises, including Mass Effect, Final Fantasy 14, and Sonic. While BlizzConline is still two weeks away, we got some unfortunate news about Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4. A lost remaster of GoldenEye was discovered by a very patient fan, and Warner Brothers finally secured a patent for the Nemesis sys

Square Enix revealed the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion during a livestream event yesterday. Called Endwalker , the expansion is set to conclude the current storyline and move the MMO into the next

Part of me is curious to see where new modes and additions will appear when the first big seasonal update rolls around, or if Blizzard has something more experimental planned for a hero shooter that is relatively by-the-numbers right now. But when it comes to the user interface experience, I gotta give this thing top marks.

But in PvE, Roadhog is a real contender. He can deal respectable damage with his scrap gun’s alternate fire being able to one-shot most common enemies. Even more useful is his hook, which can steal snipers from their perch — and to round off his skillset, his Whole Hog ultimate makes crowd control a breeze by pushing back advancing groups and breaking down heav

Like with the earlier Talon and Uprising Missions you can expect to spend less time dueling fearsome foes and more time fighting off rounds of riffraff and robots. So in PvE, a mixture of crowd control, high damage and adaptability are key– sorry Reinhardt and Widowmaker mains, you might need to s

Following the grandiose Breath of the Wild , Nintendo circles back to this overlooked Wii game , which resides near the start of Zelda ‘s rich timeline. This charming remaster embodies the prior two decades of 3D Zelda , stressing more linear gameplay, puzzle-solving, and temple-crawling. But Skyward Sword also excels in its own right, with colorful, stylized visuals, atmospheric locales, and exhilarating flight mechan

Despite locking certain modes away until new players have earned them, actually selecting what you want to play and jumping into a game is seamless. Much like the title screen, not much here has changed when compared to the first entry. Things are simple and easy to read, while updating character designs have been thrown onto each icon and pop with real visual flair. With any luck, PvE will be an option on this menu in just a few short months.

So long as you can dodge and evade enemy fire and make strategic use of her recall ability, Tracer can deal consistently high DPS while enjoying the use of her quick-charging sticky bomb ultimate abil

I haven’t played enough of the game to judge its new direction and updated mechanics, thus placing a score on the experience doesn’t only feel unfair, but unprofessional. But what I can do is admire the sexy menus and slick user interface, since I don’t need any friends to lose myself in the cauldron of stats, modes, and heroes that make up the logistical majority of Blizzard’s hero shooter sequel. A real review is coming, but for now this will have to do.

Overwatch’s corporate identity was clear to see through its diverse cast and clear attempts at inclusion, made worse by queer characters who were never given any strong narrative within the world itself. On the surface it was a bold statement, but dig any deeper, and you were left wanting so much more as Blizzard chased demographic approval. Its universe had so much potential for excellent stories and worthwhile sociopolitical commentary, but this clear ambition was brushed aside as the years went on in favour of recycled seasonal events and development of a sequel that is only now lumbering towards the finish line. I once looked up to Overwatch 2 maps, but now I can’t help but view its failings and cynical business practices for what they really are. I still love so much about it, and the warm memories it brings to the forefront of my mind are clear proof that Blizzard struck gold with this one.

First up is the main menu, which is a real snazzy bit of presentation. The first thing you’ll notice is how much the colour scheme has changed, with many of the tones updated to feel more modern and grounded compared to the cartoonish first game. There’s still plenty of room for silliness, but the orchestral score is even more soaring and extravagant, doing its best to emphasise how this is a glorious return to form despite most of the game playing and looking the same. First impressions count though, and Overwatch 2 doesn’t disappoint.

Don’t get me wrong — I don’t mind that there’s an Overwatch 2. Hell, I don’t even give a shit that it’s a free-to-play nightmare that’s going to be dominated by kids with rich parents. I work in show business — the entire world is dominated by kids with rich parents. And I respect that in order to keep their esports racket fresh, Blizzard creates new Overwatch content just like how their professional players create new racial slurs.

So many people are focusing on what the story might be, or how a campaign might look based on the tidbits of lore we’ve garnered from short films and comics. I’d like to learn more about Reinhardt, sure, but that’s not what Overwatch 2 needs to be. It needs a refined combat loop that offers you the same thrills of Competitive play, but in co-op

It’s the same corporate avarice that led us to Stadia , only Google was far more incompetent with how they sold it. Fortunately, Google has more money than there are gods in the heavens; they can (mostly) pay people back for the company’s mistake . But remember Stadia wasn’t a live game that just didn’t take off. It was an entire platform that didn’t take off. A platform that Google promised would stay online for the foreseeable future. And, like Blizzard, Google could also afford the servers.

Overwatch is my favourite multiplayer shooter of all time, right up there with Halo 3. It’s also my favourite objective-based team game, which is why I have around 1,000 hours played in the first place. I used to regularly compete on teams with an average rank of high Diamond/low Masters, so I know what I’m doing. The thing is, Overwatch doesn’t reward you for that, which means every single game quickly becomes a massive pain in the a

Sojourn is a decorated Overwatch member, as a result of her involvement in a ton of missions. She led a strike team against Talon forces without mercy and participated in the Storm Rising archives mission by acting as the guiding force for the team itself. It seems like she might be taking on Ana Amari’s old role as a commanding member in the fact

Fans were excited to explore the lunar playground of one of Overwatch 2 battle pass ‘s premiere heroes when it hit the scene as one of the first new stages added to the game. Yet, aside from its cool outer-space theme and its zero-gravity area (which is largely useless anyway), there isn’t much this map has going for it. The enclosed region where point B rests is frustratingly tough to capture, and the open, somewhat barren layout of everything makes for a pretty bland experience more often than

This has us wondering just what other sorts of colorful maps will be added and revamped to this epic sequel. With nearly 2 dozen stages already featured between Assault, Escort, and Control, there is no shortage of fun choices Overwatch 2 can draw from. Let’s take a look at 5 of the stand-out maps we’d love to see in the sequel, and 5 duds that are probably best left beh

Even when (mostly) paying people back for their purchases on Stadia, Google is still showing it barely cares about its users. Not every game will allow saves to transfer. Hell, some games specifically designed for Stadia are now in limbo. Quick reminder — the people on the ground making these games are often creative folks who just want to bring something nice to the world. I’m not criticizing the engineers who made Stadia work or the artists and designers who make Overwatch look and play brilliantly. They deserve praise and probably better pay. Which, again, is funny considering these are all greedy companies sucking in dollar bills.

Leliana may seem rather gullible at first glance, but it’s clear that this Orlesian Bard’s past is darker than she lets on. Thankfully, teaming up with the Grey Warden allows her to overcome these burdens and fully invest in a fight to save the world. The fact that this character has appeared in a major role across multiple Dragon Age games is a testament to her iconic nat

The leader of Null Sector, Ramattra will show the world his brutality through his many abilities. Ramattra has a Void Accelerator as his main form of attack, which fires a stream of projectiles, like a weaker version of Orisa’s turret. He can also throw up Void Barriers to shield himself and allies, and his Ravenous Vortex will make sure enemies can’t stay behind one place for cover, as their health will be eaten

Given Blizzard’s history with level editors in the past, it would make sense to see some sort of level creation tool for Overwatch 2 introduced. Of course, it’d be tough to flesh out the details with all of the assets and intricacies involved in building a functional 3D space, but surely some sort of basic toolkit to create smaller battle arenas could be implemen

One of the key architects in forming Overwatch was the under-secretary-general Gabrielle Adawe. After the Omnic Crisis, Adawe went on to establish the city of Numbani and worked toward sustaining peace between humans and Omnics. While Adawe was one of the key figures in forming Overwatch, Gabriel Reyes, a former member of the United States’ super soldier program, was given command of the u

Of course, we had awesome women like Mei and Zarya amongst the cast, but there was D.Va, Tracer, and Widowmaker strutting their stuff alongside them. Overwatch was a real sticking point in our development as horny gamers, and a willingness to embrace sexuality in our games and view it as something to no longer be ashamed of. Overwatch was a stepping stone to this point, but a stone covered with the slippery moss of the mid ‘10s Whedonised feminism, where the best way to make a female character strong was to make her sexy too. Putting aside the smut, I was invested in some of the game’s queer ships for years, whether it be through tasteful fanart or brilliantly written fiction that understood these characters better than Blizzard ever will. Pharmercy till I die. You know Overwatch was something special because it made you care, and the relative indifference from Blizzard in the years since is almost upsetting.

Overwatch 2 was announced much too early, likely to pave over controversy at the time surrounding the company and its many scandals. We were given an awkward glimpse at PvE content that wasn’t ready for the spotlight in the slightest, while progression systems linked to certain characters have been dumped entirely in the version coming next month. Blizzard didn’t know what it wanted the sequel to be, and it still doesn’t, so we are stepping hesitantly into a future where I desperately hope this hero shooter can earn its place. The original game is being shut down as it arrives, with its younger sibling intended to replace everything it stood for as heroes, cosmetics, and everything else is carried across as part of a hopefully seamless transition. I’ll miss what is being left behind, and so will many others.

His Power Block ability also allows him to negate the damage done to him, and absorbing heavy damage will enhance the power of Rocket Punch . Whilst Doomfist can no longer one-hit enemies with the Rocket Punch, he’s still powerful to those who know when to go in, dish out damage, and jump

Sigma’s abilities make him a solid choice for an impactful tank . Kinetic Grasp eats at eager enemies’ damage, feeding his shields to make him even stronger, and the Experimental Barrier is a portable shield that allies can shoot out of. His ultimate is also great for dealing with clusters of enemies, pulling them into the air to then slam them down, creating an opportunity for an immobilized att

The rift between the two escalated, and Overwatch’s headquarters were destroyed in an accidental explosion. It was reported that Morrison and Reyes died in the explosion, and the United Nations elected to disband Overwatch. They passed the Petras Act, which deemed any Overwatch-related activities ille

Overwatch will forever and always be a shooter classic, but my heart sinks when I think about how its once pristine legacy has been dragged through the dirt in service of a future that right now still seems so unclear. I formed so many memories around long nights experimenting with new heroes or Overwatch 2base site diving into seasonal events with life-long friends by my side. Few games have ever managed to ignite that sense of passion within me, and that alone is an achievement worth celebrating. Now, as the servers prepare to switch over for good, I’m left mourning the empty void that once defined an entire part of my life.

I will say that I am not a Lucio main by choice, but largely because my team would be ruined without me healing their asses on a constant basis. All the usual customisation options for analysing your stats can be found here alongside statistics and challenges. It’s a shame that a lot of tasks have carried over from the first game instead of starting afresh, meaning your main source of progression this time around is the battle pass and not much else.
Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 video showcase also contains some details that are easy to miss on top of these new announcements. Like everything else shown in the video, these details are subject to change, but some give players a few ideas for what to expect in the seq

There is, of course, the issue of the PC setup typically offering the superior experience, leading to some player advanta

Blizzard recently held its BlizzConline event, during which the company revealed a slew of new information on its upcoming games , including Overwatch 2 . While no release date or time frame was announced, the almost forty-minute video unveiled many new details about the highly anticipated hero shooter. Some exciting announcements included two new map reveals, a look at the new enemy designs, and new passive role attribu

The stealth-assassin hero may not be the first to come to mind when picking for a PvE match, but the changes made to her character in Overwatch 2 have cranked up her abilities with only a minor nerf to her bullet damage. Against the less evasive NPCs in PvE, her SMG can crank up her DPS with a barrage of critical h

The Overwatch 2 battle pass is clean and simple. I’m surprised Blizzard didn’t decide to push the boat out or try something new with its implementation of the mechanic, because what we have here is rather basic and predictable. Some tiers have more than one reward hidden away inside them which is cool, and the variety of cosmetics is quite incredible and makes great use of the extensive hero roster, but what you’re working towards is very clear.

Fortunately, the hero gallery is still a breeze to navigate and has been updated with new portraits for each character. Actual models are used this time around instead of stylised drawings, and I’m still not entirely sure which of them I prefer. I’m sure they’ll grow on me.

One of the most significant additions coming with Overwatch 2 is its new PvE game type, Hero Missions. And while Blizzard spoke a lot about this new element, there were a few details in the video left on the table — specifically regarding Hero abilities and upgra

Jumpers also seem to have an intense effect on friendly Omnics when destroyed, thanks to Overwatch 2’s new chain-hit reactions system. One clip in Blizzard’s video shows the player gunning down a Jumper, which then explodes and bowls into a group of Omnic Grunts. Sw

While we knew that most (if not all) of the original Overwatch maps will appear in Overwatch 2 Hero Guide 2 , it was exciting to hear that Blizzard will be expanding some of those maps. During the Hero Missions segment of the video, Blizzard revealed that Push the Payload maps will have branching paths, meaning the Payload might open up new areas of original Overwatch m

But Blizzard left out a few enemy types seen in a concept art image shown during the video. Most notable were the humanoid, Omnic grunt-looking bots with wings and red armor and an enormous, gorilla-like bot hulking over the rest in the lineup. These enemies may not appear in the final build, but it’s interesting to wonder what they might

The BloodRayne duology features two fun action-adventure titles that star the bombshell dhampir, Rayne . This vampire uses her arsenal of blades and guns to rip and tear into her enemies, sucking out their blood to quickly fill her health if she tanks too many hits. Her sassy personality and combat effectiveness make her a great character whom fans will love to see in a modern video g

Part of me is curious to see where new modes and additions will appear when the first big seasonal update rolls around, or if Blizzard has something more experimental planned for a hero shooter that is relatively by-the-numbers right now. But when it comes to the user interface experience, I gotta give this thing top marks.

Most notably, the DPS Hero’s mobility set is unknown. However, the BlizzConline video offers some potential hints via some concept art. It shows Sojourn sliding forward with booster jets coming from her back, knees, and calves. Perhaps this is her mysterious missing abil

One of these details is the names of some Heroes’ so-called Talent Trees. Each Hero has three trees, with seven tiers per tree. Soldier’s trees are called Commander, Rifleman, and Vigilante. Mercy’s are Field Medic, Valkyrie, and Savior. Reinhardt’s are Crusader, Juggernaut, and Guard

In the absence of playing any actual games in Overwatch 2, I had a decent amount of fun staring at its menus as the search time for a match moved into the double digits. There was a weird smugness to seeing the years of work I put into the first entry immediately reflected in the updated client, which to me looks slicker and better presented than anything that came before it.

Kaplan does seem to have big plans for Overwatch 2 Challenges 2 , and the story mode may end being phenomenal. If there’s a good number of missions, new skills, and a high level of replayability, then it might turn out to be a game deserving of your hard-earned dollars. But right now, Overwatch 2 seems like the same old Overwatch , only now everyone has a fancy new hairst

I’ve got my Transcendence ready to go, meaning that when Genji pulls his Dragonblade, I can protect my entire team by moving alongside him and nullifying all of the damage he’s trying to dish out. I used to be pretty good at Overwatch back when I played more regularly, so I’m patiently waiting for a specific sign — that telling dash up into the air to give him a clear view of the targets below him. «Ryūjin no ken wo kur

Recent job listings indicate that WBIE is working on a variety of new games, so it’s possible we haven’t seen the end of the Nemesis System entirely. Whether the mechanic shows up in another Middle-Earth sequel or perhaps in the upcoming Harry Potter game is unknown, but what is known is that few, if any, developers will get the chance to use the Nemesis System in other games — at least until the patent expi

Overwatch 2 is a very iterative sequel, and thus many of its menus will feel very familiar to those who spent time with its predecessor. Because of this stylistic choice I’m going to work through the highlights and point out all of their biggest draws and flaws before deciding on an overall score for the entire package. Yes, some serious science has gone into this idea.

Basically, I don’t think a fixed, single-player campaign is going to work for Overwatch 2, if that’s what Blizzard is currently planning. On the flip side, a robust hero shooter with an emphasis on cooperative play could do phenomenally well. I’m thinking of Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer, where you get to choose a type of enemy, a map, and a difficulty. After that you consciously work with your teammates to take on waves of baddies while completing a variety of objectives. It’s so simple, and yet so effective, because the moment-to-moment satisfaction is completely tied to using your abilities. I still think playing as an Asari Vanguard in Mass Effect 3 was the most fun I’ve ever had in a multiplayer game — it’s a shame BioWare isn’t bringing it back for Mass Effect: Legendary Edit

One of the most significant additions coming with Overwatch 2 is its new PvE game type, Hero Missions. And while Blizzard spoke a lot about this new element, there were a few details in the video left on the table — specifically regarding Hero abilities and upgra

I booted up Overwatch for the first time in a few months last night and it wasn’t awful. I mean, it was frustrating, but I had at least one team who genuinely cared about the objective and we won two matches in a row. For what it’s worth, I only really play Competitive or seasonal co-op events — Quick Play and Arcade aren’t for
