All Baldur’s Gate 3 Cleric Subclasses

The Fighter in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the simplest classes to understand when looking at it. The Fighter, as their name suggests, fights. More specifically, the Fighter class is an expert in using weapons and armor of all kinds and can thus adapt easily to different combat situations. The Fighter subclasses each offer more ways for the Fighter to excel on the battlefield, be it through specialized combat maneuvers, the addition of magic to their arsenal, or simply increasing their survivability and critical hit potential.

The Duergar race is one of the best races for Clerics in Baldur’s Gate 3 because of their powerful Duergar Resilience passive, which is granted from level 1. This passive grants Advantage against Saving Throws for being Charmed or Paralyzed by enemies, as well as against Illusion magic.

The Shadow Magic Sorcerer draws on the dark power of the Shadowfell to manipulate shadows to their advantage. Initially, this grants them 24m/80ft of Darkvision and the Strength of the Grave ability. This ability will trigger when your hit points are reduced to zero, restoring 1 hit point and preventing you from becoming downed. This only triggers once per long r

The Linebreaker Boots or Boots of Speed work well early on, and you can replace them with the Bonespike Boots, Helldusk Boots, or Disintegrating Night Walkers later on. The Gloves of Hail of Thorns can give you an extra multi-targetting attack early on, though as you continue you’ll wanna replace them with the Flawed Helldusk Gloves, and then either the Bonespike Gloves or the Helldusk Gloves after reaching Act 3.

The weapons that reduce the target number of critical hits are the Knife of the Undermountain King (Act 1, sold in the Githyanki Creche), The Dead Shot (Act 3), and Bloodthirst (Act 3). Players can also use the Covert Cowl (Act 2, Under the Last Light Inn, held by a monster) to reduce the target number by 1 when obscured, later replacing it with Sarevok’s Horned Helm during Act 3 since that doesn’t require the wearer to be obscured. The Shade-Slayer Cloak in Act 3 does the same, but only while obscured. Combining these items can be incredible for dealing huge amounts of damage.

The War Domain is granted by gods of warfare, and begins with the ability «War Priest.» The Cleric can spend «War Priest» charges to make an additional attack each turn, making the War Domain the best for a weapon-focused cleric build. At level one, the Cleric has three «War Priest» charges. To further aid in direct combat, the War Domain also grants proficiency in heavy armor and martial weapons.

Oath of the Ancients Paladins will break their Oath if they fail to defend the sanctity of life or deliberately disrupt the balance of nature. For an early example of this, players can break the Oath of the Ancients by resurrecting Mayrina’s husband using Ethel’s Wand, since raising the dead counts as disrupting the balance of nature. Many of the actions the Dark Urge will spur players into taking can also result in breaking the Oath of the Ancients.

Naturally, the Oath of the Crown Paladin works well with all the usual Paladin equipment, like the Armour of Devotion, Blackguard’s Sword, Gloves of Heroism, and Helmet of Smiting. They can also make good use of the Blackguard set, which can be found during Act 3. As always, the Helldusk Armor is excellent heavy armor if you have access to it, and the Flawed Helldusk Armor accessible during Act 2 makes a good substitute until you can get it.

Players can get excellent results recent post by Baldursgate 3fans mixing in the Acid Damage equipment, beginning with the Caustic Band sold in the Myconid Colony in Act 1, which adds 2 Acid damage to all weapon damage dealt by the wearer. This is a small but helpful addition that becomes much more dangerous when paired with the Ichorous Gloves (Act 2, Stashed in the Storeroom at The Waning Moon) to apply the Noxious Fumes condition. This condition causes creatures within 3m of the target to take 1d4 acid damage. Add Varsh Ko’kuu’s Boots (Act 1, Githyanki Creche) to gain resistance to Acid and immunity to acid surfaces.

The Champion subclass is simple and effective, providing straightforward bonuses that can benefit many other classes. This is especially true of Rogues , who benefit immensely from the Improved Critical Hit effect. When stacked with equipment that further lowers the target number for critical hits (which stack in Baldur’s Gate 3), it becomes possible to create a critical hit monster very easily.

The Circle of Stars Druid pairs very nicely with the Light Domain Cleric, taking advantage of Warding Flare to avoid incoming attacks and Radiance of the Dawn to fire off a Radiant Damage AOE. Mixing in two levels of Fighter for Action Surge and access to a wider range of weapons and armor is also a great option, allowing you to cast multiple spells in a single turn.

At level six, the Druid gains «Land’s Stride: Difficult Terrain,» which allows the Druid to move through difficult terrain without getting slowed down. At level seven, the Druid gets to select a spell circle to draw spells from once again, gaining some additional level four spells in the process.
