Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Fighter Subclasses
At level seven, «Exceptional Training» lets their Animal Companion dash, updated blog post disengage, or help allies as a bonus action. At level 8, Animal Companions gain more HP and higher AC again. Finally, level 11 adds «Bestial Fury,» giving their Animal Companion an extra attack. This level also comes with a final set of upgrades for each Animal Companion, as shown below:
In Baldur’s Gate 3 , Wizard builds can be enhanced further with the use of specific consumables. Certain potions, like the Elixir of Battlemage’s Power, will grant combat-oriented bonuses for this best Wizard build, while others, like the Potion of Angelic Slumber, will make it easier to cast more spells more often by restoring Spell Slots.
The Swarmkeeper Ranger performs especially well with the Sparkstruck set if using the Cloud of Jellyfish Swarm. Grab the Joltshooter, Jolty Vest, Speedy Lightfeet, Sparkswall, and the Real Sparky Sparkswall for an excellent early-game set that’ll let you dish out tons of extra lightning damage. The Blast Pendant will pair well with certain Ranger spells to dish out some extra damage with this setup too.
The improved Mage Hand at Level 1 is a strict upgrade over the default Mage Hand, and it saves a level 1 spell slot. At Level 5, Githyanki gain Misty Step, a normally level 3 spell that can be incredibly valuable for this Spell Slot-starved class.
Since the Beast Master Subclass gets its strongest features at level 11, it is typically ill-suited to multiclassing. That said, players could take a level in Fighter to gain an extra fighting style, or a level in Barbarian for access to Rage (though Raging will prevent the Ranger from casting or concentrating on spells.)
Other Class Support: While the Ranger is a decent thematic addition to the Bard, players should still consider dipping into other Classes further to maximize the potential of such a build. For instance, a single dip in Warlock can access Hex for a more efficient and reliable replacement to Hunter’s Mark. Meanwhile, dipping into Rogue gives Sneak Attack for maximum damage potential.
It is important to note that there are certain weapons whose enchantments only function when bound using either Weapon Bond or the Warlock’s Pact of the Blade. In the release version of the game, only one of these weapons is currently accessible, this being the Charge-Bound Warhammer in Act 2. Purchased from Dammon, this warhammer gains +1 to attack and damage rolls and deals an additional 1d6 lightning damage when it is bound to its wielder. The Warped Headband Of Intellect , found during Act 1 by killing Lump the Enlightened in the Blighted Village (or at any point afterwards after summoning them using their horn), is an excellent option for players who want to take advantage of the Eldritch Knight’s abilities during the early-mid game without investing in intelligence. The aforementioned headband sets the wearer’s intelligence to 17 while worn.
The build is notably proficient in Heavy Armor, a proficiency granted by the Life Domain subclass itself. It also has several Cantrips that keep allies alive and enemies weak when their relatively limited spell slots are expended – but their Domain Spells are always prepared, leaving room for other spells to diversify options.
Because of their enormous repertoire of knowledge, and the ability to swap prepared spells from their entire available list of spells anytime outside of combat, Wizards are generally considered the class with the most diversity and utility in Baldur’s Gate 3 .
In Baldur’s Gate 3 , Cleric builds can be enhanced further with the use of specific consumables. Certain potions, like the Potion of Speed, will let Clerics do more within a single turn and support their allies better, while others, like the Potion of Angelic Reprieve, will let Clerics restore Spell Slots to keep casting.
If you are dead set on including a character in your party, simply talk to Withers to respec them to one of the optimal Wizard companion classes listed above. This way, you won’t miss out on that character’s questline, and you won’t have to suffer from an improperly balanced party.
It’s unsurprising for Bard builds to capitalize on Dexterity due to their Spellcasting nature. With Dexterity being the pinnacle of flexibility, Bards can enjoy long-ranged bows and Versatile weapons. However, this penchant for dextrous movement can lead to a Ranger Multiclass, giving the Bard expanded combat opportunities via spells or weapon options. Considerations for this combo include:
Players will lose out on Arcane Recovery slots, but lose very few other benefits of both classes. Clerics rely on Wisdom to cast, however, which can lead to competition between Wisdom and Intelligence at every ability score improvement opportunity.
The Linebreaker Boots or Boots of Speed work well early on, and you can replace them with the Bonespike Boots, Helldusk Boots, or Disintegrating Night Walkers later on. The Gloves of Hail of Thorns can give you an extra multi-targetting attack early on, though as you continue you’ll wanna replace them with the Flawed Helldusk Gloves, and then either the Bonespike Gloves or the Helldusk Gloves after reaching Act 3.
