I’ve Put 1,000 Hours Into Overwatch — Here’s What I Want From Overwatch 2
Hollywood has shined through as one of the most favored Overwatch maps with its neat aesthetic and its insane diversity of elements. From various high-ground perches for snipers to set camp, to moving platforms, to pathways which can be exploited for cheeky flanks, this area has just about everything. The versatility and elaborate nature of Hollywood’s corridors and pathways will likely make it a great choice for multiple new modes offered in Overwatch
There are few stages that encompass both terrific level design while also being fun to look at in the process, with its cheery Greek themes and Spartan-esque pit straight out of 300 . The «Well» section of this Control map makes for some exciting and amusing skirmishes, especially for the likes of Lucio, Winston, Pharah, and Orisa who can «boop» their unsuspecting targets straight into that gaping
Not only will Sojourn be Canadian, but she’ll also have a map related to her . Individual heroes in the game often have unique voice lines for specific maps that remind them of a part of their lore. No doubt Sojourn will have the same type of reaction when her map, Toronto, will be released. It also fits her personal lore, since after Overwatch was disbanded, Sojourn reportedly went to lay low in Toro
As already mentioned, Sojourn has been a part of the Overwatch franchise and lore for a very long time. No other hero has been teased as much as she has been, ever since the conception of the game. Given how early on the team knew they wanted to have her as a playable hero in the game, it’s only natural there’s so much information and footage available of
Sojourn’s position has always been within Overwatch. She has appeared in Ana’s origin story, which reveals her to be a captain within the Overwatch faction. She’s clearly a long-time member of the team, having lived through its birth, rise, and fall, and now its upcoming rebirth with Overwatch
I haven’t played enough of the game to judge its new direction and updated mechanics, thus placing a score on the experience doesn’t only feel unfair, but unprofessional. But what I can do is admire the sexy menus and slick user interface, since I don’t need any friends to lose myself in the cauldron of stats, modes, and heroes that make up the logistical majority of Blizzard’s hero shooter sequel. A real review is coming, but for now this will have to do.
Overwatch defined my first steps into adulthood. I was in my first year of university when it came out, and remember watching my flatmates jump into the beta as they hyped it up as the next big thing. I’d never played a Blizzard game before, and at the time it was an untouchable bastion of goodwill defined by countless classics. Not so much these days . This was its first new IP in decades, and it had all the ingredients to be a masterpiece.
If you owned the original Overwatch or pick up the Watchpoint Edition of Overwatch 2 you’ll unlock all heroes right away, otherwise free-to-play users will need to play a total of 100 matches to earn the entire roster, and that doesn’t include Kiriko unless you’ve already purchased the premium version of that battle pass. That make sense? I didn’t think so.
For the first couple of years, Overwatch was unstoppable. Each new hero was a major event, hyped up with months of speculation as players tried to guess who was coming our way next by digging into the game’s files or drawing from small clues left behind by Jeff Kaplan and friends. Sombra, Doomfist, Orisa, Ashe, Ana, Moira, and Brigitte were all big deals, igniting imagination across the fandom with how their relationships intertwined with the existing roster and how their position in the narrative would come to play an important role.
There’s a few new options — most notably the presence of an in-game shop and battle pass. Loot boxes are gone for good, with premium currency and seasonal progression now used to earn skins and other cosmetics. Time will tell whether this model works, but Blizzard isn’t shy about putting it front and centre. Aside from that everything here is basically the same, and that includes graphical settings and other such options that I forgot to take screenshots of before being locked out of the review build. Trust me on this one.
The cosmetic menu has also received some cool updates, making it much easier to navigate and understand. Bold text is used to distinguish categories while a single glance at the menu is enough to see exactly what you have equipped at any given time. Seeing all of my unlocks transfer over to Overwatch 2 was also a sad reminder of how much time I’ve poured into this series. My accounts haven’t even combined yet either, so I promise you I have more than 14 D.Va skins to my name. All the voice lines unlocked too, I am dedicated to my girl.
Sojourn has been theorized to also join Overwatch again after laying low during its downtime. Her addition as a new hero in Overwatch 2 Esports 2 is perfect since it also marks her return as a member of the Overwatch team. It’s likely that the events in Paris serve as an inspiration for her to return to the faction, along with other her
