Red Dead Redemption 2 Needs to Avoid Hollywood Tropes
As the oldest of the entries here, there wouldn’t be a list of Western films complete without at least one entry from the extensive canon of legendary Western actor John Wayne. However, among all of the actor’s work in the Western genre, The Searchers (from director John Ford) still ranks tall among its all-time greats, and is certainly worth a watch for those looking to hop into Red Dead Redemption 2 .
Grand Theft Auto V Online has been a constant source of income for Rockstar since its release, with people even joining the chaos on multiple consoles. The anticipation of Red Dead Redemption may cause many to lose interest in GTA V Online , opting instead to wait for something that will likely be bigger and better. While Rockstar presumably has a nearly inexhaustible amount of funds, they still need to keep their community interested in what they are still producing. When you reach a destination after traveling on your horse, before you actually embark or reach the waypoint to begin the mission (or speak with a character that might initiate a mission), bring up your weapon wheel to make sure that you’re carrying the equipment you intend to bring with you on the mission ahead. Whether that’s your trusty carbine repeater and a shotgun for those brutal gunfights, or a bow and tomahawk for stealthier missions, always check when you’re by your horse to make sure that you have the right tools for the job, otherwise you’ll find yourself at a loss and may not be able to (easily) return back to your horse before the mission is over.
GTA IV had a great multiplayer mode, but the greatest thing Rockstar did was release two single player expansions for the game. Red Dead Redemption received a fantastic standalone adventure in Undead Nightmare, and GTA V got nothing. Instead, Rockstar focused on improving the game’s online after launch, going so far as to launch it as its own separate product. Rockstar has been putting more and more focus on multiplayer modes, which is a shame because their stories are some of the best in the industry. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been hyped to hell and back as of last week, and while still not too much is known about the narrative that will be presented, I just can’t help but want another Rockstar tale that blows my mind. The ending of Red Dead Redemption might be one of my favorite endings of any video game ever. Until more is shown, though, I can only dream.

Even the first-person mode was just a new perspective. The game itself didn’t change drastically when it jumped consoles. Your horse is not only your primary means of transportation while roaming the landscape of Red Dead Redemption 2 , but it’s also your primary means of storage and carrying equipment between missions. Notably, that includes all of your stored weaponry, tonics, gear, and more, making it all the more important to pay attention to what you have on you.
Likewise, snake oil is also handy to have as it instantly refills your Dead Eye meter, making it a key item to have on you in tougher gunfights and excursions. Snake oil can be picked up at pretty much any general store you come across, and is also part of your camp’s stash of tonics and medicine.
There is a lot to discover in Red Dead Redemption 2 , and this is a game that is meant to be taken in slowly. The game’s opening (purposefully) takes a bit of a slower pace than some might expect, and a vast amount of that is intentional to allow you to take in the various mechanics and abilities at your disposal when interacting and exploring this Open world Games exploration.
