Overwatch 2: 5 Things We’re Excited To See (& 5 Things The Game Still Needs)

Overwatch will forever and always be a shooter classic, but my heart sinks when I think about how its once pristine legacy has been dragged through the dirt in service of a future that right now still seems so unclear. I formed so many memories around long nights experimenting with new heroes or diving into seasonal events with life-long friends by my side. Few games have ever managed to ignite that sense of passion within me, and that alone is an achievement worth celebrating. Now, as the servers prepare to switch over for good, I’m left mourning the empty void that once defined an entire part of my life.

Overcoming the Omnic Crisis turned Overwatch into a world peacekeeping force, but soon, even the group fell to corruption. A series of investigations uncovered many skeletons in Overwatch’s closet, and the group disbanded. But with rising terrorist attacks from Talon and increasing tensions between Omnics and humans, several agents got back together and reformed Overwa

During the Omnic Crisis, the United Nations formed a specialized task force to counter the mounting Omnic threat. Led by Jack Morrison, this unified group targeted Omnic control centers across the globe and took down the robotic threat. This highly-talented group of agents strategically dismantled the Omnics forces and ushered in a golden age for the wo

One aspect of Overwatch is its diversity. Heroes come from all countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Canada was one of the countries that Blizzard wanted to have a hero from. This could also be because of the Overwatch League, which has two Canadian teams, the Toronto Defiant and Vancouver Tit

After all, the core concept of the hero shooter is that you have a roster of interesting characters to play with. Taking that idea, and melding it with anything from a sports game, to a side scroller, to a strategy game, to any other genre would be easy, and would give players a new kind of game to dress their favorite heroes up in. Overwatch 2 could possibly be the last real hero shooter, as the concept will soon be nothing more than a feature in most ga

Overwatch 2: Challenges and Revitalization Efforts | by Taner K | Mar, 2024 | MediumAlthough Reyes was given command of Overwatch, it isJack Morrison who is mostly credited with transforming the unit into a devastating fighting force. He trained the other founding members Ana Amari, Mina Liao, Torbjorn Lindholm, and Reinhardt Wilheim to work together as a team and led the strike team against the Omnics. The team destroyed the main Omnic control center in Rio de Janeiro and successfully put an end to the Omnic Cri

And yet, I remain hopeful. I’ve never been accused of being an optimist, but I think Overwatch 2 has a potential that the original was never going to realize. There’s plenty to criticize about Overwatch 2, but there’s also some things we can appreciate. Four or five years down the road, we may just find Overwatch 2 in a better position than Overwatch was ever going to be in. Blizzard has done a horrendous job marketing and championing this game, but allow me to take a stab at it: I think Overwatch 2 is a better game, and the things we hate are going to end up being necessary evils that ensure it stays alive and healthy for many years to c

Combined with smooth and incredible gameplay, a cheery art style, and a bevy of free content that regularly includes new heroes, maps, and events every month, Overwatch has overshadowed Team Fortress 2 as the premier hero shooter. That’s the reason why a lot of developers are still desperately trying to make their own Overwatch to this

There’s not a lot of information about the exact hierarchy of Overwatch, but what’s known is that Jack Morrison is a Strike Commander and Ana Amari is a Captain in the faction. Other heroes seem to be operatives of various kinds, and some heroes in the game don’t even belong to a specific faction as they are with Talon inst

If you’re not intimately familiar with Overwatch, it might be hard to tell Overwatch 2 is even a different game. It has a few new characters and some new maps, a new game mode called Push, plus some subtle character redesigns, but it’s largely the same game it’s always been. But if you’ve been an active Overwatch player, a lot of the subtle changes have actually made a pretty big differe

The grim reality is that the entire reason overwatch 2 Guide 2 exists is to change the way Blizzard makes money. All of the meta changes, like the battle pass, Coin system, and locking new players out of content until they grind enough, are designed to increase revenue and engagement metrics. I don’t think we should ignore that or give Blizzard a pass, and if that’s enough to get you to give up on Overwatch 2 I don’t blame you. As someone who still loves the game, I’m willing to accept fewer free rewards if it means more frequent updates and better events. It’s simply too soon to write it off for me. I need to see how the devs respond to feedback and how much the game changes over the next year. None of this is ideal, but in the long run, it could end up being exactly what Overwatch nee
